Fuzion Meet 2020

Competition 4 out of 5. Except....and I'm sure you saw this coming...it actually was the LAST meet because of Corona. (We'll have a lot of lasts in the next month of posts as everything shut down.)

Pearl's times were still spread out with two events in the morning and one in the afternoon, but we knew the drill. We were prepared. (And I let her download Plants vs. Zombies on my phone to keep her entertained in the couple hours between. Yep...I'm a good mom.)

We all know how this works now, so let's zoom through this meet.

DOUBLE MINI

Pearl always does great on the double mini. She is solid.

I'm still a little confused about the screens, because once again, it looked like she got 2nd, but she actually came in first. (I think it means the other girl was in another group??)

TUMBLING

This is Pearl's hardest event. She is still struggling to get those legs to stay together and keep everything tight. She actually did a really good job I thought, but she was in a group of some really great tumblers, so she got seventh. I love this blurry picture of Pearl and Kyle. Her coaches are always there encouraging her.

Pearl showed me where they post everything. (The stuff Tyler found last time.) This is more accurate than the board.

TRAMP

Pearl is also pretty fantastic at tramp. She doesn't love this event, but she usually has a solid routine. In the video here, her pike jump is a little sad, but it doesn't stop her from getting a good score and tying for first. (Although, apparently it is just her on the stand. Who knows how this all works.)

It was a really fun meet. The medals were super cute with an animal paw print and bright colors. I'm so proud of this cutie. It is too bad that she wasn't able to finish the season with the final competition, but she has plenty of medals to show that her skills have been stellar.

Dynamic Duos - Sweethearts 2020

So Sweethearts ended up being the last dance of the school year. Who knew?

This was a boy's choice dance, which means we have much less to do on our side. This showed up on our porch.

And June responded in kind. (Joey actually told her later that this was the coolest reply he has ever seen.)

You might not be able to read all the bear puns so they are below. I couldn't remember all the answers. June had to remind me.

Why do polar bears wear fur coats? They would look silly in ski jackets

For the day date, they did an escape room that had a super heroes theme, which was very appropriate considering their choice of attire for the evening.

The theme for the dance was Dynamic Duos. Joey's group was smart and they chose something easy: Incredibles! He came and picked up June and they wore their awesome shirts. Pose like a super hero. Close enough...

I guess they didn't do pictures until it was getting dark. But it looks like they got plenty of fun ones.

They had a lot of fun. Josie and Hyrum joined right at the end, which is why they have different shirts. I'm impressed they came up with something so quickly.

After pictures, they went to Sam's house and they had pasta and bread and then they played five crowns and hung out until they went to the dance for the last half hour. (Why isn't it cool to actually go to the dance? If that is the case, save money on tickets and just hang out with friends.)

You'll just have to imagine how the girls would have looked at Prom and Morp. That would have been Robyn's first dance (although there were rumors she was going to be asked to Prom). It is really a bummer that school ended so abruptly, but missing a dance or two is not the end of the world.

Hunting For Eggs

My kids still love the Easter egg hunt. I think I'll keep doing it until I have grandkids. This year we moved it indoors. We often use the neighbor's yard so there is more space, but with quarantine, I didn't think I'd ask them.

Instead, I moved the hunt indoors. I kicked all the kids out and I hid all their eggs in our messy house. (Which makes them a little harder to find.) I still hid camo eggs outside. The girls had their own color of egg to find and I also hid white eggs with colored chicks inside. The color indicated what prize you got. And finally, I made a small Easter bag for each of them and hid it somewhere in the house. They each had to find their own.

The eggs were not easy this year. Tyler hid half of them (thank you) and there were occasional easy ones, but they could be inside drawers or hidden under things. The girls really had their work cut out for them. I'm pretty sure that no one found all their eggs that day.

The bags were pretty tricky to find as well. Daisy found hers by default. I hid it in a large empty box on the stairs. Part way through the hunt, Tyler decided to take the box out to the garage for recycling. Rookie mistake. (Don't move anything until after the hunt.) I had to tell him to bring the box back and the kids descended on it like vultures. Thus Daisy found the bag. (Although she did walk by that box a dozen times before.)

Here is a great picture and an egg I'm very proud of hiding. Can you see it? It is rather tricky and even though Ivory knew the egg was somewhere near, it still took her a while to find it.

Eventually everyone found most of their eggs and their bag. They got quite the stash of goodies. (Some can't eat them since they are doing the candy challenge until May 1st, but candy keeps....unless mom eats it.)

The white eggs held chicks, as mentioned before. Pink chicks meant you got to choose an ice cream flavor, blue chicks meant you got to chose a treat for mom to make, and yellow chicks meant choosing a movie for everyone to watch. There was one empty white egg. That was special. It meant you got to choose the next book we read together as a family. Ivory got the empty one. (She was actually bummed at first. No one likes an empty egg.)

In case you are wondering, she chose Gregor the Overlander for our book. Great series, if you haven't read it.

And finally, our big winner, finding the five dollar bill, was Daisy. It was a bit anticlimactic, since we were looking for extra camo eggs outside and this one had popped open revealing the bill. Daisy just happened to pick it up first. But that still makes it hers. :)

It was a great hunt. Three kids came down that night after finding an egg in their bed. Pearl and Daisy found all theirs, but I think we still have orange, green, yellow, and one white egg still somewhere in the house. Apparently, this will be a year long hunt. Bet we find some when we change rooms this summer.

Art Theme: Flowers

Another week in quarantine and another week of fun art. I very much look forward to Sunday to see all the fun things people have created. Some people are stretching their talents and learning new skills. Let's see what we came up with for the theme of Flowers. (Which was Pearl's theme)

This is stretching me too because I'm having to find new ways to put things on the blog. Not everything can be a picture. For instance, this awesome song that Tyler put together. He did NINE different parts and put them all on top of each other for his version of the song, Where Have All the Flowers Gone.

Here you can see all the parts he did. Pretty darn cool.

Daisy also had a fun idea that we forgot to share during the art show. (It is easy to leave things out by accident since we have so many.) She did a slide show with words of wisdom from the flowers. Click HERE to see the show. (I believe you can mouse scroll to see all the slides.)

And another fun slide show done by Ivory. She went out and about and took lots of pictures of flowers and then put them together to show us. I like the song choice for the background.

I was originally worried that flowers would  be too boring and we would see a lot of the same thing. How wrong I was. With all the creativity, I should never be worried. It is a wonderful thing that we all see the world differently.
