You finish (sniff)
I am a bit emotional (we all know that). Tyler laughs at me because he can always see the tears coming. When I read a touching story, I often have a hard time finishing because my voice gets caught in my throat and the tears start to flow. There have been many a time that I have handed Tyler the book or magazine and asked him to finish a story.
So last night Tyler was reading a little story out of the Friend. It was not a long story, a few paragraphs, but I was surprised when there was a long pause and I realized that Tyler was having trouble finishing the story. He looked at me and laughed with tears in his eyes because he was surprised by his own sentimentality. He tried several times to finish the last few sentences but it didn't work and he finally handed it to me. I bravely finished the last few lines (not an easy task for me either) and we laughed and cried a bit together. June was a little confused. She wiped a tear from my cheek and said, "Stop being silly you guys."
Part of me hopes she inherits this wonderful gene for crying and part of me hopes she doesn't. But chances are good she will get it, since apparently BOTH of her parents have it :)
I can see why you got tears in your eyes. I did too. What sweet story. I had friend in HS who was blind and it always amazed me how happy he was all the time. He would joke about his blindness all the time. He informed me he has really bad aim in the bathroom since he can't see the toilet. His other friends would get after him for telling things like that to me since I'm girl. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I am very MANly. It takes a strong MAN to be in touch with his feelings enough to allow them to show through. I'm such a MAN that I think I'm going to beat my wife for posting this.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. And, you all know I inherited said crying gene (although I'm pretty sure I didn't inherit it from you), so you won't be at all surprised to know that I, too, got a little teary reading it. I am also grateful to be married to my own very manly, very in touch with his feelings guy.
ReplyDeleteI don't cry with books, but I cry with movie trailers. I don't know if thats better or worse, but its definitely embarrassing. And unrelated, I have yet to see a really good Anne Boleyn movie. Of all of them though, The Other Boylen girl is probably my favorite, that or The Tudors, and thats not exactly family-friendly viewing.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are too much like us. We are the same way! Although, I think Jeremy gets teary easier even than I do. He is very in touch with his feelings, which is what I have always loved about him, but reading this post, I thought, "He would KILL me for posting this!" I have to be very careful about what I post or he's likely to swoop in and shut the whole operation down!
ReplyDeleteLately, it seems like I cry at everything--it does not even have to be a book, movie or story. I just get emotional over little things!
ReplyDeleteSeems to me that women in general have tender hearts, that's why we make such good moms! But hey, I think it is even cooler when a guy can get choked up. You are right Tyler it takes a manly man....
ReplyDeleteI cry all the time! Movies, books, articles, tv... It's ten times worse during pregnancy, oh and after pregnancy too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that :D I have no doubt Tyler that you are a manly man :D Maleen I tagged you!
ReplyDeleteI'm just a bit the opposite (although the Friend always gets to me). My mom isn't a crier and my dad is, so therefore I have siblings who are about half and half. I have often wondered if I feel things the same as other people!?!
