Love + Art = Heart

Before we jump into this post that has more pictures than any other, you should know a couple things.

1. I love art

2. I was going to miss the Junior High Art show while I was on the cruise

3. I told the kids to take pictures for me

4. They took a lot

So it feels a shame not to use all these great photos. Plus, I love art. (Wait, did I mention that?)

I actually got to see all the art myself. They left it up until the following Monday, so I was able to walk around myself. But I wouldn't have had all the cool pictures if not for the kids. I chose my three favorites from many of the categories. (I didn't include them all, although most.) My favorites weren't always the winners, so you won't see 1st, 2nd, and 3rd necessarily. And I'll let you know when June's pieces come up.

Shall we get going? The hallways are covered in art for the show. Seriously, it makes me so happy.

Both Robyn and June took a camera and kept busy. First up: Elongation. These stretch pictures were so cool.

Graph art is always one of my favorites. In this picture you can see all three that placed. First was Sophie, second was Christina, and third was June. They are all very good friends. (Oh, a woman bought this piece from June. Don't worry, she got to keep a copy.)

The ninth graders went to the zoo and this abstract animal art was the result.

This next theme is called 3 faces. The kids do a self portrait, abstract, and surrealistic. June's is the first one.

Rhythm is a weird section to me. Some of the pieces are so different from each other. June's is the second picture.

Scratch art up next. June did the seal.

Abstract figure can be very different as well. I really like these.

Neo Iconography takes a classic piece of art and adds something that wasn't there before. I'm sure you can find the addition. June did the second one and got an honorable mention for it. Sophie did the Thinker. (The art teacher bought that one from her.)

If you take art the entire time you are at school, you can do a ceiling tile in ninth grade. All through the school there is art on the ceiling. These are my favorite from this year.

In this next category, the kids had to do a monochromatic piece. One color with white and black. They had to draw three words out of a jar and make a picture using the three. June's is last and she got first place in this category. (The same woman wanted to buy this piece as well, but June didn't sell it because she thought a copy wouldn't turn out as well.)

I always love the surrealism category.

Wooden figure seems tricky to me. June's is the first one. Notice another blue ribbon. (I can brag. She's my kid.)

 In the Hands, Feet, and Head category, the kids wrote their own question and did their art piece. June's is first. Her question was 'What do you value most?' The second is 'How do we know what's real?' and the third is 'What sound do your hands make?'

I think this is another surrealism category, but focused on faces.

This one is Greek Vases. I really like that octopus one.

I'm not sure I have seen the cardboard category before. It was neat. Although I'm still not sure how the second one counts. I guess maybe it was done on cardboard?

More animals from the zoo, but more realistic than abstract.

Figure drawing is a repeated theme each year. June got a honorable mention for her art -- the first one. I love the last one. I think it is amazing.

I call this next one Zentangle, but June informed me it is called pyscho realism.

Phew...almost there. These next two are other pieces June did in tone on tone and abstract figure.

This last one would go in surrealism I think, but it was actually under the category where the kids listened to music and drew what came to mind. Interesting.

We can't skip favorites.

Love these girls. I'm so glad they took pictures for me. It has been such a fun year of art with June. Next year, Robyn will be in this art show as well. Can't wait.
