Life is NOT Fair, but I Try

I cut Ivory's hair last week. It was all sorts of different layers because it grew that way from birth and I thought it was time to even it out a bit (the longest part in the middle was almost touching her bum). Most people haven't noticed but she looks more precocious to me. I wasn't going to post about it, but then I realized that I posted June's and Robyn's first hair cut. And so, in an effort to be fair, I thought I should mention Ivory's.

There is one marked difference. Robyn and June had curls and I saved their curls so I could do something with them later on. Well...Ivory did not have curls and I threw her hair away. Yep people, I chucked it. I didn't tie her hair back in a pony tail, so it was just a bunch of strands on the floor that would have been very hard to piece back together. It isn't fair, but that's just the way it is. Sorry Ives.

If it makes you feel better, Daisy doesn't have curls either.

Flattery is the sincerest imitation...

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery." Here's a phrase that historically comes from a book entitled, "Lacon," by Coined by Charles Caleb Colton in 1820.

I am quite certain he had never met my daughters, for when I looked upon my third and beheld the following, I felt indignantly flattered:

Where could my child have learned such mannerisms? How could this be? My child, whom I am raising to be a perfect angel, where could she have run across this gesture?

Must have been her mother, I'll bet she's flattered.

Lucky for us, no one saw this sincere imitation.

The Best Fish Story Ever...

Just to set the record straight, I had a much better version of the story that I was prepared to tell. My story fits much better with the grand and long tradition of tall fish tales. It actually involved a shark attack! However, it appears that Maleen has already told the events as close to reality as possible—completely ruining my chance of convincing people that I really caught a whopper.

I'll tell ya, though, the next time I go fishing...I'm going to write the story before she does.

Hook, Line, and Sinker

Number of children taken: 3

Number of fishing rods bought: 2

Number of injuries sustained: 1

Number of fish caught: 0

Saturday was 'free fishing' day. Tyler missed it last year so he wasn't going to let it happen again. The kids had a great time, despite the fact that no aquatic friends came home with them, and even Ivory seemed to enjoy her time despite the wicked bruise on her hiney from sitting on something unfriendly (Tyler says large construction nail?).

Tyler has had better trips what with the judgmental lady who kept dragging Ivory out of the road and giving him the you-are-a-terrible-parent glare and the fact that Ivory peed three times on the trip and all of them not including a toilet (I think she may be left home next time).

He said truthfully that this was the best and the worst fishing trip he has ever taken the girls on; this being the ONLY trip he has taken them on.

So, now that we have some rods, here is hoping that the next trip is better and they actually catch something.

As things stand, I am pretty satisfied with my catch...

Not Much Has Changed

During my day, I do a lot of this...

And definitely some of this...

Except that these pictures are of June, not Daisy.

Life is a big circle, repeating itself over and over again.

I don't mind.

I could do without the laundry and dishes and sadly the piles of clothes will remain long after the babies are grown.

I'm not sure why I have been thinking about how precious our time is with our little ones. I am not pregnant and extra emotional. I do not have some fatal disease. I sure hope that my time here is not limited.

Just some days I look into these little eyes that surround me and I can see straight through to eternity. Things sure do look good on that side.

Um...that one's Daisy.

Midnight Cravings

Last night around midnight Tyler told me he wanted brownies. I love him enough that I almost got my shoes on and went to the store to get him some, but come on...it was midnight and I was almost finished with a book, so his request went unheeded.

In the morning I recalled that I had a handy dandy homemade recipe that I could have used the night before; it is so fast and easy. You really just need some cocoa powder on hand and you are set (well, you need all the ingredients actually, but the others are things that you would probably have anyway).

And so today we made brownies, but it wasn't enough (being a 9x9 pan) so we made them again. And I've decided that I really like the added touch of sprinkles and white chips; they make it seem gourmet.

So it is your lucky day. Here is the super easy recipe so you can fulfill all your midnight brownie cravings. I got this recipe from here, in case you were wondering.

Super Moist Scratch Brownies

1/2 cup butter
6 T. cocoa powder
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup flour

Melt butter on stove or in microwave. Add cocoa and stir until smooth. Add sugar, mix thoroughly and let cool for a moment. Mix in 2 eggs and 1 tsp. vanilla. Combine thoroughly. Lastly, stir in 3/4 cup flour, but no not over mix; just until the flour has disappeared.

Pour into a sprayed (unless it is non-stick) square brownie pan. Cook in a 350 oven for 25-30 minutes. Allow to cool 10-15 minutes, or at least try not to burn your tongue when you dig into it after 5 minutes.

*Feel free to experiment and add things on top, such as caramel, nuts, choc chips, coconut , sprinkles (yay!), frosting...you name it.

So there, now you can have brownies whenever you want. And if you don't have cocoa powder feel free to stop by my house at midnight and I can hook you up. I will always have some extra on hand...you know, for my husband and HIS cravings.

Melts My Heart

I had to wake Daisy up early today because I wanted her to take an early nap before morning activities. She has often been awake before at 6:30, but not this morning. She was sawing Z's while I picked her up and put her on my shoulder. I snuggled her back to my room and she was immediately back asleep.

So I took a second to look at my sleeping baby. It isn't a sight I see very often. You see, I put her down when she is still awake and I come back and get her when she has awakened once more. I do check on her at night or at nap times, but those are just little peeks to see that she is alright and I quickly leave so I don't disturb her. Therefore it is not often that I get to gaze on my baby slumbering peacefully.

She was so beautiful with her plump baby lips and creamy skin. Her little eyelashes fluttered every now and then and she would sigh ever so softly in her sleep. I finally placed her next to Dad so I could grab a shower before the day began, but as I stole one last look at my sleepers, I took a picture to remember.

It reminds me of that little poem. There are several versions and a nurse gave me one when I left the hospital with my first baby. Little did I know how true it would be.

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.
