Day 30 (Jolt)
I think this picture is very cool. People do end up with some pretty wicked scars when they've been hit by lightning. I don't recommend it. (Although I have no personal experience. Scars yes...lightning no.) Is there something you wish you could say you lived through and survived? Lightning strike, shark attach, avalanche, junior high?

Double
Day 29 (Double)
I can't believe we are reaching the end of Inktober and November. I'll miss putting these pictures on here, but I have noticed that when I put a picture on, I feel like I have blogged for the day and therefore I haven't been getting as much blogging done as I had anticipated. But that is the story of my life in general. Today is a real treat. I love these cute friends who mirror each other. You aren't seeing double obviously, but friends are always double the fun.

Concert-a-lot
For some reason, there tends to be certain months for concerts: October, December, and May. This is what they should call each concert.
THEY WILL GET BETTER CONCERT: (October) The kick off concert so you can compare and feel like your child has improved by the end of the year.
YOU DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH TO DO THIS SEASON CONCERT: (December) Any excuse to play those songs you can only play once a year.
YOU NEED TO FEEL LIKE YOU GOT YOUR MONEY'S WORTH CONCERT: (May) We don't want you to forget that your child took this class all year.
There is quite a gap between December and May. That is when the kids do all their competitions. As parents, you can sit back and wait for the last concert, or be more involved and go to the different schools where your kid is performing in March. I've done some of both. I'm usually happy to attend any event where my child is performing. I'm trying to get better at combining these concerts. So today you will get a smidgen of choir, band, and orchestra. Enjoy.
First up was choir. Ivory is taking choir this year. I actually really enjoy choir concerts. Our choir teacher is retiring this year and so she is doing all her favorite songs. I'm not sure we have the same taste in music. But here is Afternoon on a Hill.
She is singing alto and I love that it has helped her hear harmony in many songs. She is still the shorty in the class, but that is good because she is usually on an end.
Next up was band. This one was fun because both Ivory and Robyn are playing percussion this year. Ivory played with Beginning Band. We sat in the front row by mistake which means we could hardly see her. (If you have a percussion player, the front row is not your first choice of seating.)
When Robyn played, I just moved seats so I could get better pictures. Here she is playing the Cabasa. It is a shaker instrument with a sound between a scrape and a rattle. You hold it in your hand and turn the handle to get the sound she is making. See if you can hear her in Midnight Escape.
Symphonic Band played some other numbers, but I only record a few...usually the kids favorites.
My favorite group is the percussion class. There is something really cool about an song done completely with percussion instruments. You can't see Ivory very well. She was playing the bells and her little frame gets lost in the background. Here is Escape from Pirate's Cove.
Robyn is doing Jazz Band again this year, but on piano instead of percussion. That means we have a good view of her. The Jazz Band did a good job. It always takes them a bit of time to get going with a new group.
The final October concert was Orchestra. June loves to play but she doesn't love her teacher at the moment. He is a band teacher who tries to teach orchestra as well. She says he is a bit boring. But I'm still glad she is playing. She auditioned for the Youth Symphony and was accepted, but I made her choose between Ballroom and Violin. (Not because I'm awful, but because it is good to make choices.) She chose Ballroom this year, but she may change her mind next year. June is 3rd chair at the moment which puts her on the outside, so I can see her. Yay!!
They played Mattachins, which is a sword dance June already played in Honor Orchestra. It was fun to hear it again.
Although it is a bit crazy to get to all the concerts, I enjoy each one I go to, and I'm so happy to see the kids developing their talents.

Gift
Day 28 (Gift)
The Nightmare Before Christmas is such an interesting movie. I love the idea of all the holidays having their own world and one holiday becoming curious about another. I like the characters involved. (Who couldn't love inquisitive Jack Skellington and Sally?) But I imagine there are many people who don't enjoy the movie. Sad for those people, since I feel like the Nightmare Before Christmas stuff is very pervasive. After all, it is Disney sponsored. I like this picture that Robyn drew. I especially like the stripes on Jack's suit. I'm just not sure where his legs are?

Thunder
Day 27 (Thunder)
Speaking of super heroes....we have another one today. Out of all the super powers out there, I have never wanted to control weather. Seems kind of lame. Although Storm does great things with it. Even Gandalf was fine with a little rain. (We have been watching Hobbit again to show Robyn.) With so many powers out there, I would rather fly, or warp time. I can think of a dozen other things besides lightning and thunder.
I love a good storm though. In August when we have summer storms, I love to listen to the thunder and watch the lightning. I just don't desire to control them.

Lantern Fest
Imagine Tangled with all the lanterns floating over the water. Then imagine the scene with a thick layer of fog over the water. Now imagine that it isn't fog, it is smoke. And imagine you are really cold and sitting around a small fire pit. There...you have Lantern Fest.
I'm sure that makes it sound less inviting, but it was actually quite fun. It all started when Jonny and Beth got tickets for the Lantern Fest and they invited us! That is really cool. Tickets are over $50 I hear, so going for free was right up my alley. The Lantern Fest is out at the Millers Motorsports Park in Tooele.
I didn't know much about how Lantern Fest was supposed to work, but it seems like a big excuse to get together and light lanterns. (Probably because it is illegal most of the time.) Jonny and Beth drove us out. We brought chairs and lots of blankets, but it was still pretty cold. And Beth managed to take Jonny's chair out of the car so we only had three chairs between the four of us. (Look for pictures with Beth on Jonny's lap. They do like to snuggle, but it was more out of necessity in this case.)
The parking and traffic is always crazy out there because there is one way in and one way out. We got in fairly quickly and walked our way over to the lantern area. It was really just a big gravel parking lot. There were hundreds of fire pits and already hundreds of people. But amazingly Beth found one that didn’t have anyone around it. So we claimed it, knowing we would probably have more people soon.
You pick up a bag on the way in that has s’mores supplies, matches and a lantern. I actually never looked in the bag. And I realize I never ate my chocolate. :(
My back was acting up so I didn’t do much. The guys went for food, and Beth went for firewood. I held down the fort and invited some people to join us. Nick and Morgan were the first two, although after they set up chairs and left, it took them a while to find us again. Seriously, that place was packed with fire pits only ten feets apart or so. Beth brought back firewood before the guys got back. It was still light at this point.
There were food trucks but the lines were 30 minutes long. Tyler took a picture of the line behind him when he got up towards the front.
Back at the pit, we managed to get the fire going. Yay girls!! It wasn’t hard. You just lit the log wrapping on fire. But we had a nice fire going once the boys returned.
Smoke was a real problem. It was everywhere because of all the fire pits, but it was mostly blowing toward Tyler. We adjusted seats, now that we had Jessica and Kenzie join us. Also, eventually two more people came and joined Nick and Morgan, and later, two more jumped in our circle. There were activities going on by the DJ stand, but we just hung out by our pit.
It eventually got dark and it seemed like it was almost time. Finally, they gave us the green light. Everyone got out their lanterns and fluffed them. There was a small square hanging at the bottom that you would light and it was supposed to fill your lantern with hot air and then it would take off...in theory. It didn’t always work.
There was so much smoke. There were logs in fire pits every ten feet, and tiki torches in between to use for lighting the lanterns. There was a haze around everything.
For five minutes, we watched lanterns rise into the sky all together. It was pretty cool. Almost magical.
And then the wind took over. All the lanterns headed off into the night. But even better, the ones that didn’t do as well would fly into neighboring fire pits. Of course, they were on FIRE, so flaming lanterns were intermittently flying into us. It sure made the night exciting. If a lantern ran into you, the best thing to do was pick it up and try to send it on its way again. But usually that meant it just blew over into the next fire pit.
I couldn’t get my lantern to go up. Tyler either. But he helped the last girl to join us put hers up. Of course, she then reamed her date for only taking one picture which was basically the worst picture she had ever seen. She was a peach. A flaming lantern caught on her dates arm and he stamped it out for safety and she was mad at him. I just laughed. I'm not sure they will go on a second date.
Here I am trying to fluff out my lantern, but it just wasn't going.
It was quite the production. After the lanterns were all done, it was time to leave. And everyone left at the same time which meant no one went anywhere. We just sat in the parking lot and played poker for an hour and then enough cars were gone that we drove home. (At least it was warm in the car.)
If someone asked me to go again...I probably would. I definitely wouldn't pay $50. I would dress a little warmer and maybe bring a mask for the smoke. It was an experience like none other. I feel like the wind brought a special element to the evening. Oh...and I would bring the soundtrack from Tangled.

Stretch
Day 26 (Stretch)
Have you ever wondered what super power you would like to have? I never even considered elasticity until watching the Incredibles. Then it just seemed there was so much you could do with it. Maybe I just want to be Elastigirl. She is so cool, and a competent mom. Maybe I just want to be a competent mom... Have you seen Incredibles 2 yet?

Prickly
Day 25 (Prickly)
This may be my favorite. It is hard to pick because I like so many, but I adore this one. I don't care if he is prickly. I want to snuggle him.

Chop
Day 24 (Chop)
This picture may seem a little morbid, but it has a funny story behind it. Miranda (my older sister) and I used to listen to these fun animal songs. One was about bunnies. Hop hop hop hop, hippity hop hop hop, see the bunnies playing on the ground... (or something like that)
Miranda made up her own version one time, about fingers flying through the air and how it all started on a dare. I actually did not know this twisted version she made up. (Although we made up plenty of strange songs together.) But she did teach this one to my kids and Robyn obviously remembered it.

Muddy
Day 23 (Muddy)
Tyler thought this was a picture of an old lady, but it is not. Robyn was using a reference of a muddy Daisy from back in August. I've included the picture so you can see what she was going for. Apparently, Daisy looks a little like an old lady when she makes that face.

Expensive
Day 22 (Expensive)
I was surprised at Robyn's choice for this prompt. I don't know much about lions, truth be told, but Robyn told me that white lions are very expensive, with their blue eyes. I certainly think he looks stunning, but I probably wouldn't buy one.
Happy Thanksgiving by the way!

Breakable
Day 20 (Breakable)
I think this one is simply splendid. I never want this to happen to my phone and since having an Otterbox it never has. (Shameless free advertising for them to all 8 of my followers.) Breaking something can be so sad. I have to remind myself all the time...it is just stuff. But I really like some of my stuff.

Scorched
Day 19 (Scorched)
I think this one is so cool. I love all the cracks in the blackened part of the marshmallow. Plenty of my marshmallows have looked like this. I don't eat a lot of roasted marshmallows anymore. Not since I threw up after eating more than a dozen on a campout. If we have s'mores, I just eat the chocolate. But I do still appreciate the art of toasting a perfect marshmallow.

Day 18 (Bottle)
I really like this one. It is so easy to focus on the girl because she draws your eye, but make sure you look inside the bottle. Can you tell what it is?

Swollen
Day 17 (Swollen)
I don't hate wasps or bees, but I certainly don't want to be stung by one. And I never have been. Tyler has some great stories of epic stings in Brazil, but the most I've had is a bite from a horsefly. I think this picture is great and my favorite part is the shadow. I would have never thought to put it there.

You're All My Heart Ever Talks About
Since you saw the anniversary pictures, I figure I should drop the other shoe and finish up our anniversary. We didn't take that many pictures. We just had a great relaxing day together.
Tyler sent me flowers at work. Super sweet. They were beautiful. I'm a sucker for daisies. (Go figure.)
We have done a couple massage before, but I'm not really a massage person. I would rather get a pedicure. Tyler has done them with me before, but it seems like a lot of money when he isn't even going to get a color. So we split the difference. In the morning, Tyler went and got a massage and I got a pedicure. Aren't we romantic? But it was very relaxing and nice. And then we got back together for the rest of the day.
We did some shopping. We hit the outlet stores at Traverse Mountain, but we learned quickly that we aren't name brand people. We happily came back to Target to grab some clothes. (Seriously. Target is a favorite. I just don't want to pay a lot for my clothes.) I did get some earrings at H&M. See if you can spot them in our anniversary pictures.
We had a bottle of bubbly on hand so I sabered it while we were at home. I must say I'm quite impressed with this one.
Then we did pictures with Robyn. It was really a lovely day. Not too cold, which was nice because it has been much colder this fall. From pictures we went out to eat at Texas Roadhouse. I think my favorite thing there is the Snake Bites. I could go and eat just those. I have definitely been converted to spicy by my lovely husband.
We did stop by Trader Joe's after dinner to grab chocolate covered blueberries. It is a tradition. Then we were off to the Hines Mansion. We have gone there once before. It is nice and cozy and not too far from home. Last time we were in the Library. This time we escaped to the Seaside.
The room was very cute and every room has a great jetted tub. That is by far Tyler's favorite part. I really wish we had a nice tub at home. (Although he might never come out.) The tub was so fun with big mirrors. And there was a cool window with a boat in it between the two rooms.
Tyler taught me how to play poker. I've only played Black Jack. But now I know Texas Hold'em. I'm not very good, but I'm assuming it would be more exciting with more than two players.
No selfies for us. (We just weren't thinking of pictures really. We had already taken all the ones we needed earlier in the day.) But Tyler did catch one of me reading and I caught him sleeping. Cutie pie.
My only regret was that we missed breakfast the next morning. Kids had activities bright and early and we couldn't stay until 9:30. I remember the breakfast being really good before. We stopped and got Kolaches instead for us and the kids. (They probably were more happy with that anyway.)
We also planned our dates for the year throughout the day. I'm looking forward to flea markets, a murder mystery, zip-lining, and much more. It is always an adventure with Tyler. I couldn't imagine a better companion through life. We are setting sail into our 20th year. I'm not seasick yet. ;)

Angular
Day 16 (Angular)
This one is small and simple. Well...simple if you can draw something with an angular look. I really like when animals are given an angular appearance. And I think this frog is adorable.

Weak
Day 15 (Weak)
You have to go back a bit to find the connection between this prompt and Robyn's drawing. When Robyn heard the word 'weak' she thought of how everyone's braid is weak in comparison to Elsa's big fat braid. She had this idea to draw a girl with skinny braids, thinking of Elsa. But she ran out of time. So you just get Elsa. To be clear, Elsa is not weak.
You have to go back a bit to find the connection between this prompt and Robyn's drawing. Clock
Day 14 (Clock)
This is the real day 14 picture. It's about time...
Sorry, that was a bit cheesy. This picture is very interesting to me. Makes you wonder what is going on in Robyn's head. It must be quite the place up there. If it is half as crazy as what goes on in mi cabeza...

Guarded
Day 13 (Guarded)
This one is fun. I'm always interested to see what Robyn will do with the prompt. Yesterday's was pretty straight forward, but what would you draw for guarded? I like her choice. And I think this is one of her favorites. Don't be fooled. It may say Day 14 on the drawing, but I'm pretty sure she meant 13 because there isn't one. (She has two 14s. Maybe she is superstitious?)

Still Looking Good After 19 Years
While all my pictures were disappearing, my laziness paid off. When I move pictures over from my camera to my computer, I usually don't delete them off the card. I'm not sure why. It doesn't take much time, but I don't mind my card getting full. And I like seeing all the pictures on there when I flip through.
Well this time, it was a blessing. All the pictures I moved over were gone, but luckily my anniversary pictures were still on the camera card. Whew. I did not want to take them again. It probably wouldn't happen.
Robyn was our great photographer that we brought along this year. We couldn't find a piece to the tripod so we needed another set of hands.
It was a beautiful day and we went to a park that we know well. And thus these following pictures came about. We are definitely starting to get a bit grey around the edges, but the smile lines are genuine.
This was the winner for this year. This picture gets a place on honor on the wall. I will see it every time I go down the stairs. Guess I'm in for a few more smile lines.
