Grateful in Idaho

Thanksgiving this year was so fantastic. Vicki was back in town and this was her first Thanksgiving since coming back from her mission, so she decided to host up in Idaho. The only real downer was that JR and his crew couldn't make it. I believe they came up on Saturday but we were gone by then.

We somehow managed to miss all the really bad weather. It snowed a bit on the drive up, but we stayed snug in the car and got there just fine. Daisy and Pearl had gone up the day before with Grandma, so there was more room in the back for people and pets to stretch out.

We arrived around dinner time and were greeted by Grandma, the dogs, and KJ. He is getting so tall and growing up. He also got a new tattoo. Apparently all the brothers got one. They are similar but just a bit different. Hinckley's and Kaysen's have some color in them. They stand for Balance, Push, and Force. I think this picture is more to show off his physique than the tattoo. :)

We played a lot of UNO flipped that night and the next day. We picked that game up right before Thanksgiving and it is so fun.

Tyler and I did a bit of shopping that Wednesday night so we have everything on hand. At the store we saw some Jack Fruit. I always forget it is a real thing. It looks more like a huge hedgehog curled up on the fruit stand. Anyone ever tried it??

Thanksgiving day was so nice and relaxed. We all were working on different parts of the meal. The kitchen was busy and full all day, just as it should be.

Some things that I liked: Grandma bought a bag of those random squash. One happened to look just like a swan. Isn't it beautiful?

I was getting ready to open a package of napkins and it made me laugh that they were called Guest Towels. Uh...no. They are napkins. I'm pretty sure if I hung a couple of those in the guest bathroom, my guests would  not be very happy.

Grandma had her gold placemats out. We've been writing on them for years. It is so fun to read back through them and see what everyone has written.

Tyler's ambition this Thanksgiving was to perfect making a bloomin' onion. He did a practice one at home and then made a couple more in Idaho. They were so tasty. And with the yummy dipping sauce, they were a highlight!

Mel (a friend of the family) arrived and then we decided we needed to saber some bottles. We got a crew outside and they went to town on the bottles. Ready guys?

GO! Robyn and KJ got it first try. Kaysen in two, and Mel in three.

Ivory took just a bit longer, but she got it. No worries. She was just making everyone feel good about themselves.

We are ready to feast. Ken and Karma (Kat's parents) joined us and brought some amazing rolls. I think it is time to dig in.

Everything tasted so good. Everyone did a great job on the food. Compliments to all the chefs. After dinner we played Family Feud. I threw it together at the last minute and it was so fun. We did Utah Cazier's vs. Idaho Cazier's. They killed us. It wasn't even close. The second time around, they let us play Fast Money because we weren't going to get to otherwise. Both teams that played fast money did great and easily got enough points. (We were playing a kids version so the questions were a little easier.) Some of the answers were weird though. 'What is something you would do right before bed?' Out of 100 people that answered, no one said 'Pee'? Unbelievable!

Let's talk about the dogs for a minute. You know Nova. You know Pip. But have you  met Watson? He is a large, fluffy, golden doodle. Not much going on upstairs, but super sweet. There is a funny relationship between the dogs. Nova didn't like Watson (she doesn't like other dogs), but Watson didn't care. He was too dumb to notice. And too big to worry about her aggression. So he ran around and annoyed her until she was used to him. Then they got along pretty well.

Pip however did not qualify as a dog, so Nova decided to eat her. Multiple times. Pip didn't really enjoy that. We basically had to carry Pip around everywhere so she didn't become a Nova snack. Poor Pip.

We had dinner nice and early on Thanksgiving. We got to hang out and play, but we still had some time to kill in the evening.

I suggested going out and doing some shopping. There were a couple deals I didn't mind checking out. Mistakenly, I had Tyler come with us. Hahaha. Mistake, mistake, mistake. He hates things like Black Friday. Well, I'm not sure if anyone really loves crazy people and ridiculous lines, but he hates it more than most. We stopped over at Target. Already a line around the building.

We did a bit of coat shopping. It wasn't too bad. Except the check out line was crazy long and not fun. Poor Tyler. Later he told me he hated everything about it and everyone there. "What? I was there. Do you hate me?" "I hate myself when I'm there," he said.

I also wanted to stop by Kohl's for luggage, but I let Tyler stay in the car. But sometimesI find a good deal and I don't mind a line.

KJ waited in line for big Jenga, which was so fun to play later. Crazy that we could build it almost as tall as Pearl.

The next day there was fresh snow on the ground and it was a lovely day. June and I went back and did a little more shopping. Don't worry, we tried to keep Tyler out of it as much as possible.

We made pacos for lunch. Isn't my sister in law, Kathryn, just gorgeous. But anyone would smile if they were eating a paco.

Then we journeyed back home. We missed all the crazy snow and our drive was pretty good. Want to see what Tyler worked on while in Idaho? He reupholstered the piano bench. He bought fabric and with a little help from his mother, they did a fun project in just a day or so. Our bums are now sitting pretty.

It was such a wonderful Thanksgiving. Even Cid, the cyclops, agrees with me. He was born, compliments of Daisy, on this trip. He didn't get any Turkey, but he doesn't have a mouth, so he couldn't have eaten it, and I don't think you'll hear his complaints. But he thinks to you...Happy Thanksgiving. Ork.
