(February 28th, 2022 & 2023)
So weird to look back and find out that the banquet was on the exact same day last year and this year. I guess if you find a day that works, you stick with it.
However, they changed the venue and I'm not sure that was the best choice. But let's not get too far ahead. Let's start with 2022. Wrestling was over and they have a celebration banquet at the end to give out awards and honor the athletes.
The food was really yummy. It was at the high school and they did some kind of tacos or mexican food. Delicious. And it is fun that the whole family could attend.
Maren gave out the awards to the girls. She had great things to say about Ivory. It was Ivory's first year wrestling and she got the Rookie of the Year award. Which makes sense since she went from having not wrestled a day in her life to taking 4th at State.
This year they decided to fancy it up and had the banquet at the Golf Club. It was packed. I think perhaps more people attended than last year, but also it was a bit smaller space. I'm glad we got there early enough to get seats. They added more tables, but still people were standing in corners.
Once again, the family came to support Ivory.
It was tricky to get pictures, but we managed. Zarieh and Maren both had wonderful comments for Ivory. They said that she was a clutch wrestler. When they needed a win, Ivory would come through and bring up moral.
Ivory got the Most Valuable Wrestler award, which is pretty cool. Although I think Ivory's favorite comment was from Coach Blevins. He called her a 'Warrior Princess.' I'm not sure I've heard a better description for Ivory. :)
