#MallArtShow #SorryZeke

(May 10th, 2022)

We have the art show at the end of each school year and often they take some of the best pieces and put them in a show around town. Oftentimes they are displayed at the mall. Zeke mentioned that he had a piece in the mall display. So Daisy and I went with him after school one day to check it out.

There were some really amazing pieces. Some were done with pen, and it is so impressive to see what people can do with what looks like colored ballpoint pens. (Maybe I'm more impressed since I can't do it.) I'm just going to put some of my favorites in here.

Um...I  never took a picture of Zeke's art piece. Oops. Sorry Zeke. But we did take a picture of you. Almost as good, right?

The really weird thing is that I'm wearing the same shirt today while I blog about this. That's always a little trippy. :)

Love a good art show. Thanks for stopping by today.

The Way God Reveals Truth

Hey amigos! Espero que estén super bien! Sorry in advance for how long this email is, I just started writing and I kind of take after my dad in my longwindedness.

This week was awesome. I realized that if I want to baptize someone before I leave this country, basically the only option July 8th. So I spent this week inviting everyone to get baptized on that day. We had so many spiritual lessons. Some rejections, lots of, "vamo a ver" y "si Dios quiere", but also a couple yeses! It would be an insane miracle if we can actually pull a baptism or two together for the eighth but we are gonna do our best.

But our people are doing the work to get there!! We put two kids of inactive members on date for the 8th. We had been teaching them for quite a while and they never have come to church. But a date was just what they needed to get up the next day and haul the family to church!! And there is a couple we are working so hard to baptize but it's tricky because they are very busy so we don't get to teach them much, and they also want to know everything before committing. In my personal study this week I read Alma 32 and it was literally for them. Every verse just made me think, "Maria and Josue, Maria and Josue". It is all about how faith is NOT a perfect knowledge and how you have to act in faith to see if the word is good. And as you do, you can gain a perfect knowledge in that thing, or in the knowledge that the word is good or true, even though you still don't have a perfect knowledge of all things. We read it with them and it was really cool.

Maria and Josue told us they wouldn't be able to come to church because they had a family commitment and I was sad. Then true joy filled my soul when they walked in anyway before the sacrament even got passed. They left after first hour to go straight to Maria's mom's house and I am so proud of them for acting in faith and putting God first!!

The work is picking up and GUYS the mission is getting some SICK changes. It is so cool. There is a NEW Preach My Gospel. Version 2.0. For members' and missionaries' daily use since gathering Israel is the most important work going on on both sides of the veil. It has so many epic changes and I can't even start to say how heartbroken I am that this is coming out when I have three weeks left to apply it in the field. Thank goodness missions are forever and I get to keep using it when I'm not a missionary anymore. I haven't read very much of it yet since it just came out a couple days ago but I am so excited to get to know the new PMG better and apply it!

The first day it was released, I studied it for half an hour then I studied the Book of Mormon for half an hour. As I studied I was thinking about truth. God, in His mercy, has revealed and continue to reveal truth to us in many ways. The Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. We receive modern day revelation through the prophet and his ordained apostles. They wrote the last PMG by revelation, and now they have replaced it with a new PMG that has also been revealed by revelation. The flow of revelation is continuous because times are changing and God gives guidance to help us get through the changes in the world. But no one is gonna come out with a new Book of Mormon because the Book of Mormon contains eternal truths that will never change no matter what changes in the world. We need both types of guidance to get through life with peace, happiness, and protection.

God's plan is so awesome.

Dang sorry this is getting quite long but I have more to say. AreaBook or la carpeta, the app we use as missionaries, has been updated and has some awesome changes to fit the new Preach My Gospel. It truly has become such a useful tool with so many applications and ideas on how to plan, find, and GO BAPTIZE NATIONS!!

And everyone in the mission got their own phone this week. It was really cool that that happened at the exact same time as the new PMG and the changes to the app so that we can all use technology at the same time to hasten the Lord's work! And to study the new PMG because it's only available online at the moment.

Anyway, life continues to be amazing and God continues to be good! Have a great week!

Potato Day 2023

(June 18th, 2023)

I think from now on, I should make potatoes for Father's Day. I officially declare it a tradition...starting next year. :) I think our Idaho boi will approve.

Father's day is usually pretty chill around here. Tyler doesn't want a lot of gifts, although he doesn't mind extra attention. He got the absolute perfect gift this year and it wasn't even from us. He was asked to speak in church just a couple days before Father's Day. Tyler (unlike the 99.98765% of the rest of us) loves to speak in church. He loves to recount stories and hear his own voice. And he does a great job. He is entertaining and informative to boot.

Beau made a special appearance in our ward to come listen. Thanks Beau!

Here's our Sunday Selfie with Dad front and center.

Tyler is a fantastic father. He is constantly working hard so the girls can be outfitted in comfort and style and we can make fun memories together as a family. He teaches them all the important things in life they need to know. (Some listen better than others.) He's good looking and strong. The girls are getting bigger, but he can still hold all of them off the ground at once. (Yes, we are getting creative and missing two, but it's still impressive.)

Often we make Tyler open and guess gifts with his eyes closed, but this time, Beau made him open the gift without hands. He was pretty good at that too.

We got one large gift for the two of us (mother and father). It came in the month of May, and then we framed it and it was done just after Father's day. I really love this art piece and it goes perfectly in Carnegie.

I hope Tyler enjoyed his special day, but most of all, I hope he realizes, he is special every day.

I'm No Longer A Dog Person

(July 2022)

I say July but really, it was August. Also, hi, this is Ivory. Last year, I had the strange desire to make pants made out of essentially what was laundry bag material and so once I bought the fabric (if you can call it that) and a pattern I liked, we rang up Granny V and I went to stay a week at her house. We exchanged at Bear Lake, so I arrived on the 30th, but more of the time that I spent there was in August.

You may remember that Pip had passed before Bear Lake and listen, I was not on a mission to get Grandma a pet. Okay, maybe slightly. But we ended up at the pet store on Monday. First Grandma pulled a little stunt to get us to hold the chinchillas which probably wasn't completely ethical but they were very soft like they're supposed to be. Then we wandered to the back where there were cats in cages that were up for adoption. And Grandma took a liking to this beautiful kitty that she named Tally. After she signed some stuff, and we perused through the store to find everything a kitty would need, we went back, packed up the cat and all of our newly purchased kitty litter, toys, bed and everything and headed home.

Up until this point, I was a dog person. But this cat literally stole my heart and I have a thing for cats as well. I can no longer classify myself as one or the other, they are equally precious in my eyes. Tally was a pretty good kitty. She used the litter box, she left Grandma's curtains alone, she snuggled and she played. Her favorite toy was this ball that had feathers on it and spun around the floor. I'm pretty sure we had run it out of batteries by the end of the week.

I regret not taking many other pictures besides all the pictures of Tally. For staying with Grandma I was her chef. Going shopping with her was a blast. I danced all around the store and she made fun of me. We also found these amazing pink sneakers which I insisted on buying myself but because I was also going to be hauling her brick, she bought them for me. This picture was not taken the week that I was up there, and it's not even the best picture but it is proof of their amazingness.

As the chef, I made her pacos one night. I was nervous because I had never made them without Mom but Grandma was a big fan so I would say it was a success.

As for my hauling brick, there was a lot of that. I don't even remember the whole logic of it. There was a whole bunch of brick down underneath her porch thingy in the back, I'm not even sure what to classify that as. A balcony? But she needed it up at the top so she could lay it for a new walkway or something along those lines. So there was giant piles of brick and I would just load them up and take them. It wasn't too hard but over time it got tiring. I made my way halfway through the pile on my own. And then KJ and Kayson had to show up and show me up and we finished it all in one afternoon. I appreciate their help all the same.

One morning, I wanted to try my fun pink eyeliner. I didn't do a very good job but I was excited to try it so I slapped it on while getting ready for the day. I went out to go show Grandma and see what we were gonna do that day and she stopped me and said 'Nope' and made me go take it off. Then we sat down in her bathroom and she did me a lil makeover. And at the end she gave me all the products that she had used on me in exchange for me to throw my pink eyeliner away. I didn't feel like the pink was that bad but Grandma's makeover was definitely fire for her being my grandma and everything.

More pictures of Tally because she was so cute and honestly the whole focus of the week.... and the only thing I took pictures of. She had definitely made herself at home.

Don't worry, we did make the pants. The first day we washed the fabric. The second day there was some problems so we ran to JOANN and then we cut the fabric and kinda made things up cause the pattern I bought didn't actually have a size that fit me so we just adapted and made it smaller. The third day we finished cutting and started sewing. The fourth day we finished up and I'm pretty sure I wore them the fifth day. Or the last day. I'm not sure how many days I was up there. I didn't take any pictures of the process, which I'll make sure to repent of next time I do this, but here is the finished product.

I made Grandma breakfast paninis early on in the week. At first, she was hesitant. She was all 'oh this looks yummy' and then 'how could you dip that in egg!' and then 'You mashed my croissant??' but in the end she loved them. In fact, she loved them so much that she called BeaJo over on a different morning and I made them for BeaJo too. And the morning before I left, she brought over Kolby and the boys and I made them for all the guys too. My dad was also there at that point, coming to fetch me.

Grandma spent time talking to all her boys throughout the week on the phone, I love that they still stay in touch with their mom. We found out that Henlee is super allergic and so is J.R apparently, but not as bad. Kolby, Kayson and KJ all claimed to be allergic and Hank wasn't much of a fan cause he would grab the pillow and push Tally off if she ever jumped up on his lap. I was heartbroken because Grandma was gonna go give the cat back. Tally was the best kitty I could've ever hoped for but I knew I had a ravenous Nova waiting at home and Tally would be better off with another family that loved her just as much as I did.

I had driven Grandma around all week and now it was time for me to drive Dad all the way home from Idaho. It was the longest drive I'd done up to that point (and probably since) and I was a little drowsy when we hit Salt Lake but Dad was on the phone and I didn't want to bug him so I pushed through it. Maybe wasn't the greatest decision but we did make it home safely. I showed off my new pants, and greeted my evil dog which was the reason I had to say goodbye to Tally, and then spent some time with my family that I hadn't seen in a week. All in all, it was a complete success, it was very fun, and I definitely plan to come up with a weird project for next summer before I go off to college and see Granny V even less.

April Chatbook 2023

Hello progress. Sometimes it's hard to see you. The blog has always been such a joy and a task that never ends...like laundry. But it is always a great boon to say another month is squared away. (Haha, actually, it isn't quite, but the only post missing from this last April is Choir Tour and I have promises from those who participated that they will write me an epic post. Tyler is involved, so I'm actually worried about length, but beggars can't be choosers.)

I have quite a few extra pictures from this month, so sit back and enjoy a post that makes me happy in more ways than one.

Beau and I went out to lunch with Jorri. (Sorry Jorri, you didn't make the picture.) We tried out a Chilean? place. It was so delicious. We have some hidden treasures around our city.

Janille and Aric invited us to see the Titanic. I wasn't planning on attending since everyone knows how it ends, but I was really glad we went. It was very touching and interesting to learn about some of the history surrounding it. Also, the set was epic. The way they made the different layers of the boat and even how the boat tilted at the end was super cool. When we first walked into the theater, they gave each of us a boarding pass with the name of an actual passenger. Then they also wrote on the ticket whether they made it or not. Out of the four of us, only one person survived. A first class woman. The rest of us died. :(

Let's have our Nova moment right away. I was comparing the dog to people the other day. Sometimes you know someone who is really awesome, except they have this one trait that keeps them from succeeding or progressing. You wish they could change because it would help them so much, but you can't make those decisions for them. Well, Nova is the sweetest dog and so fun, right up until a stranger or another animal gets in her space. If she could just get along with other critters, life would be so much easier for her (and us) but I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Tyler was getting the rental fixed up and he invited Beau to paint with him one day. She's a great conversationalist on trips. At least once you get there. :)

Finally got Pearl on the reading train. This school year has been the best for her, series wise. She has tried many new books and seems to be hooked. Sometimes you just need the right books to get you going.

Sunday selfie!

I had a fun idea for the April display at the library. I really liked how it turned out with my rain coming down. Beau made my person, since I can't draw and Daisy made the books. She did such a good job making the spines authentic. Excellent! I even had mini umbrellas hanging from the ceiling. Everyone loved those and I got lots of comments on them.

Tyler and Ivory were gone for a chunk of the month at choir tour. On Sunday, Tyler asked if we did the traditional hearts during church. I forgot, but we quickly drew them on and I sent him a picture saying, "Of course we remembered." Good thing he doesn't read the blog. ;)

We also went and grabbed some treats while it was just the three of us. I don't know why, but when it is less people, it seem mandatory to get a treat together. I fear for when Pearl is the only one at home. Will I feel the need to go get treats all the time? (Who am I kidding? I get treats all the time now.)

The three of us also went walking along the river trail as a fun activity. Pearl loved the ducks and spent a lot of time trying to get a good picture of them.

Pearl continues to puzzle. Virginia gave us this 2,000 piece puzzle years ago. We started it and then had to move it, which led to the epic table flip, which actually didn't work at all like Tyler hoped. Since then, the puzzle has been stored away until I cleaned out a room and found it. So Pearl finished it. She is such a puzzle boss. And amazingly, every piece was there. That is a miracle in itself.

Pearl had a cooking class the second semester of school. I loved it because she brought me all her creations. So did another girl, named Emily, so often I was spoiled on cooking days. One day they did cupcake wars. Pearl's group did raspberry lemon cupcakes. I think they won best presentation. But they were also delicious!

I took this picture because that sign made me laugh every time I walked into the library. I would read across the top and then down, so in my mind it said, "April is Child Abuse Month." Pearl said she read it the same way. I recommend a new sign. Whenever I got a little snarky with Pearl, I would remind her it was child abuse month. (*I obviously do not support or condone any forms of child abuse and it is not a laughing matter...most of the time.)

I tried making Millionaire Shortbread (a recipe from the Great British Baking cookbook, so you have to convert ALL the measurements) and it turned out pretty well. Except for the part where I left the sugar out of the shortbread layer. I was so mad at myself. The rest was so good and the chocolate was perfect. It never even got spotty in the fridge. And I actually loved them. I ate every last piece. Maybe I should try those again soon...this time with the sugar.

Rainbow. Just a smidge, but I love catching them.

The conference wall got a makeover. Too many of the frames were broken, so I got some new ones. We went white this time. But they don't hang straight, so it looks like a wind is perpetually blowing through  the hallway.

Sunday selfie!!

And another selfie at church. What a handsome fellow.

Tyler rigged a rope to tie onto Nova's harness. That way she can be outside with us. We've learned from experience that you can't have her off the leash. Too many neighborhood pets are in danger.

I don't know what medium this is, but this artwork by Beau is pretty cool.

Analena did a show downtown. Artists put up their art in different shops and you can stroll through and check it out and purchase if you like. I know she sold at least one piece, so that is cool. Analena really likes geese and someone even brought a white duck in to visit for a while. I'm glad we got to stop by and see her work on display.

With the nicer weather (finally!!) Beau often comes to ride the grom. Analena is her buddy a lot of the time.

Ivory has been busy. She's been doing a movie with Pam. She has had lots of practices and then days of filming. I hope that someday we'll get to see it. She helped move a lot of set pieces around in her truck. That means she visited the infamous storage unit. That place terrifies me.

Ivory also started playing with a D&D group. She made her character first of course. She is a Githyanki which is like a space elf? Forgive my ignorance, but I don't know a lot of D&D and that is not a typical character. She's only gone a few times, but she seems to be enjoying herself. Oddly, she is the only girl in a group of 6 or 7 boys. She probably likes the attention more than the actual game.

Oh, I almost forgot about this picture. When I was going through Ivory's photos, I ran across this one and I said, "I sure hope that is ketchup." Nope. Turns out it was blood...Isaac's blood. He got a bloody nose while in the truck and decided to stick his head out the window. Efficient but gory.

That's a wrap folks. April is in the books. As you can see, it is always a party around here. This last picture is so cute. That is great timing getting Nova's tongue.
