Fete Day (circa 2013)

We were still living in Cat Pee central when Fete Day rolled around. Having just returned from trek, I'll admit that planning a party wasn't at the top of my list, but I felt it needed to happen. We called some great friends and amazingly everyone was available. We have gone through most of the colors, but black and white has been on my list for a while, and it seemed like it was time. And although we have done a picture scavenger hunt before, black and white photography fit the bill so well, we decided to do it again. Plus, I really get a kick out of seeing what other teams come up with.

I am struck by black and white photography. It is classic and beautiful. I popped my camera into black and white mode so I wouldn't even have to edit my photos afterward. Then I walked around my house as people got ready just to see how things would look.

Ahem...maybe we should get on to the actual Fete Day.

We had quite a large group this year. We split into four teams with six themes to interpret. Here were the themes:

BLACK AND WHITE
HIT THE BOOKS
ONE IN A MILLION
PUT A SOCK IN IT
TOO HOT TO HANDLE
TIME FLIES
GROUP PHOTO

We met at the Mall and sent everyone on their way, with requirements to meet back at the designated spot on time, or the team would lose points. Only team four tested the limits, arriving with only one minute to spare. Here is our whole group (minus me).

And one more on the silly side.

From the Mall we went to Tyler's work where we ate dessert, edited photos into black and white, voted on our favorites and exchanged gifts. We had some technical difficulties with the pictures. Most of them were taken on phones and then emailed to Tyler. But for some reason they didn't all arrive. Two I requested today to complete our collection. Also, my voting system stunk. Instead of just voting for your favorite, I wanted to give everyone a chance, so we gave decreasing points to each team. But when you are giving 1, 2, 3, or 4 points to team 1, 2, 3, or 4...well, you can see that I didn't think it out very clearly. Nailed it.

Despite the craziness, I still deciphered the numbers and saw the trends and each team won the most votes on at least one of their pictures. But I get ahead of myself. Let's look at some of these awesome photos. It will be easiest if I list the theme and just display the pictures in order starting with team 1, etc.  You can pick your own personal favorites.

We sure had a good time. Thanks to everyone who participated! It was a crazy busy night. In fact, at one point I realized that I hadn't changed Pearl in a good long while. I noticed this when she came to me and mentioned that she had soaked through. Oops. I ran out to the car but was woefully unprepared. No diapers. No wipes. No change of clothes. Luckily, someone had given us extra t-shirts that were still there. I put Pearl in one and then watched her closely the rest of the evening as she ran commando.

Later, after everyone had gone home and we were cleaning up, Dad asked Pearl why she was wearing a long shirt. This was her answer.

Silly Pearl. But it was a good end to Fete Day.

I can't believe the creativity that all of you showed. I wouldn't know where to begin. Not to mention that taking pictures isn't my forte. Great pictures! Which team were you on?
