Park City Art Festival

Wow, what a day. We had so much fun and I think this will definitely be a tradition in our family. This is actually the second year we have gone, and it was loads of fun. The entry fee is only five dollars a person and children are free. However our first stop is always the kids discovery area and it costs five dollars for face painting (so you end up paying for them anyway). The girls love the face painting though, and this year they wanted to be princesses. I talked Robyn into doing a flower crown, but June couldn't be persuaded not to have the exact same thing the girl before her had. Her only change was that she wanted green cheeks. The lady painting was hesitant, but June was very determined. I think she is still lovely in her own way.

Then we strolled up and down the streets trying to take in as much art as possible. With kids, this is not easy, and you pretty much scan as much as you can as you walk along. To make the girls take a peek, I had them choose something specific to look for. Robyn looked for flowers (which she found plenty of), June looked for something from the movies (we found some Dalmatians and figured that counted), Tyler chose an eagle and we only found one (surprisingly), and poor me, I was the only one who did not find my subject (unicorns). I somehow figured we would pass somebody with fantasy art, but not so much. Park City is fun to stroll through anytime of year and we stopped to see the fun art that is native to the busy streets. Every year, we kiss the moose.

We stopped for lunch and later for smoothies. Being thrifty, we can't afford for everyone to have their own, but I think it draws us closer as a family. Ivory started to chug down on her straw, quickly developed a brain freeze and spat the rest out while crying. Poor thing, she never saw it coming. However, it only took a few moments and she was pointing at the cup for another sip.

Oddly enough, I think the girls' favorite part was all the dogs. Since it is outside, many people bring dogs and there are so many different breeds to view. We almost lost the girls a few times as they took off following a tail instead of us. We didn't bring a dog of our own, but we got plenty of comments on Ivory. She is so stinking cute and so tiny to be running around that many people would stop and smile or ask how old she was. Plus, she has her own endearing way of making friends. Here is her playing with a boy she met on the curb.

Part of the fun for the girls was simply riding the bus. There is a free bus that takes you from the outer parking lot to the event (much nicer than having to find and pay for parking). It is almost like an amusement park ride for the kids, because you can sit where you want, there are no seatbelts and you get to hold onto a pole. They really enjoyed finding our bus stop on the way back since they were color coordinated (we had to look for the red stop).

It really was a fun day and not very long, but everyone was tuckered out by the time we left. Ivory of course was asleep in minutes since she had skipped her nap, but it wasn't long before everyone followed her example. Tyler and I enjoyed a few moments to talk together while we drove through the beautiful canyon.

What a fun tradition! I'm surprised you didn't find your unicorn...it seems like that would definitely be a part of an art festival. Maybe unicorns are out? It looks like you guys had a great day. You are always so good at making outings memorable.
