That One Time I Tried Being a Soccer Mom

Our girls have been in and out of extra curricular activities, but for some reason, no one has ever done soccer. Last spring, I watched Daisy kick around a soccer ball and she wasn't too bad. Combine that with the fact that she is the fourth child and hasn't had many opportunities to try things for herself, I decided to sign her up for soccer in the fall.

I didn't take into account one little factor. Daisy is by far my least aggressive child. It is fine to put a ball in front of her and have her kick it. She does well. But tell her to go take that ball away from another child...this is less likely to go well. It just isn't in her.

We figured this out early in the season, but there was no going back. I still think she had a good time and felt like part of something that her sisters hadn't done.

And she sure was cute. Her team was the Red Dragons (Tyler named the team through Daisy, narrowly beating out "Lady Bugs"), and they were adorable. After all, they are all around five years old. That equals the cutest games of soccer ever. (If they were rated for cuteness.)

She is number 7.

As the season progressed, she got more lazy. She told me there was too much running and she would slowly trudge down the field phlegmatically ignoring the ball when it came near her. It made me laugh.

Her favorite parts, by far, were snack break at half time and the treat at the end.

I'm guessing that soccer might not be her sport. The good news is that she gets to try it all over again just to make sure. When I signed her up, it was a joint fall/spring package. So, whether she likes it or not, we will be back on the field in the spring.

Who knows? Maybe over the winter, her inner warrior will come out. Most likely, she will still be my sweet Daisy.

Good golly, she is so cute! There's nothing cuter than 5 year old kids playing soccer.

I think the treats would be my favorite part too. Hope Daisy continues to have fun.
